Offering for Sleep: Bedtime Body Scan

ree

Sleep has been a big focus of the health and wellness industry in the last few years. I feel like every time I open the Apple News app there is a headline about how 'American's Aren't Getting enough Sleep'. When I enivitably have insomnia, these headlines flash before my eyes further stressing me out about not sleeping. 🙄

Falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up have all been issues for me, and I find the more I worry about them, the worse my sleep gets. I had sleep issues even when I was child; I recall leaving my bed at all hours of the night and trying to sleep on the floor because I couldn't stand to toss or turn in my bed anymore. I also began holding my breath while trying to fall asleep; I would inhale and hold my breath as long as I could. But I really enjoyed holding my breath after the exhale. My mind felt much more still with less air in my system.

Another technique I practiced as a kid was a body scan. I have no idea where I got the idea from, but I started to imagine water covering my toes, then my feet, then my ankles... and so on. Sometimes before I would even reach my arms, I would drift off.

So if you struggle with sleep, or even if you don't, give this body scan a try as you get in bed tonight. I have added theta waves as the background sound to bring you into an even deeper state of relaxation. Sound waves in theta encourage a deep relaxed brainwave state. They are associated with the subconscious mind, REM sleep, and light sleep. Some even refer to theta as "the healing state".

Enjoy this body scan practice! 🙏
